My Monthly Income Stream Report – November 2011

Published on December 1, 2011 by

Welcome to December!  I can’t believe that it is already here.  This entire year has gone by so fast!  I also can’t believe that I just started this website in May, and it has already been as successful as it has been.  Thank you to everyone who has supported me this far!  My income is down a bunch from my October Multiple Income Stream Report, but read on to find out why.

Important Happenings in November

  • I have to admit it, but I was pretty lazy this month.  I took about a week and a half off from blogging around Thanksgiving, and then I’ve been slow to get back at it.  During the break, I put together a bunch of post ideas, so I am set to go, but I need to get writing.  But, the laziness has been good to recharge my batteries.  This time of year is always the busiest at work, and as such, my side income streams, such as blogging, really do take a back seat.  Plus, there are always more family commitments and other events this time of year that I need to attend.
  • As part of my laziness, I didn’t do any freelance writing this month either, and so my income did take a hit on that front as well.  I don’t know if I will do much in December either, but I plan to start the New Year strong on this front.
  • Finally, ad revenue from my sites declined this month as well.  I was expecting several deals to renew, and they fell through, which was disappointing.  Oh well, you can’t win them all, and I will be back trying this month!

What I Learned

  1. The biggest thing I learned last month was that I needed to take a small break to regroup, recover, spend time with friends and family, and not worry so much about making money.  While making money is a huge passion of mine, I don’t want it to consume me, burn me out, and distance me from my family.  I think breaks are good and healthy, even if it costs a few hundred dollars.  This being said, I’m making it a personal goal of mine for 2012 to take all my vacation at my primary job.  I don’t know if I’ve ever actually done this before, but I’m going to do it in 2012.  I think Sam from the Financial Samurai put it best – you are essentially giving yourself a pay cut by not taking all your vacation because it is factored in your total compensation.
  2. Man, I was depending on one of my main advertisers to renew, and it just didn’t happen.  So, I learned not to depend on this type of thing.  I’ve read so many blogs and posts about once you get an advertiser, they renew – but budgets and goals at companies change, and so did my advertiser’s needs.  It would have been a big deal, but it never went through.  Hopefully I can lock some good ones in this month!

Thanks again for your support!

As always, I love you thoughts, questions, comments, concerns!

  1. Looks like from your report (and also from other bloggers) that sponsored ads and posts really is the largest revenue generator. Why put up with the vagaries and intrusiveness of Adsense?

    • I don’t use AdSense on any site, but I do use PPC ads (InfoLinks). The revenue has been increasing each month, and it has been reliable, unlike private advertising.

  2. I seem to do better on sponsored posts and ads compared to adsense too. I have very little adsense on my site for that reason. Plus it doesn’t look so nice.

I also think it is great you are taking a break. I too was feeling overwhelmed and overworked recently and I have been doing my best to set priorities and focus on what is really important and the blog is not one of those things.

  3. Yeah – if you’ve got to break, you’ve got to break. There’s a vacuum now for a new advertiser to fill – I’m sure it won’t take too long!

  4. I think the sponsored posts might slow down over the holidays but I’m hoping they will come back strong next year.

  5. One has to get used to the monthly variability of web income. Having said that, your total is still very good!

  6. I think it’s actually good in the long run to take a little break and recharge. It’s an investment creativity and energy. Sometimes ideas come out of the blue when you’re not actively thinking about trying to come up with them.

As far as the variability, it happens. Maybe things will bounce back in December, or after the holiday!

  7. We all need breaks from blogging so I’m glad you took some time off. This month is going to fly. Even though I got all my holiday shopping done there’s a lot more to do this month with year end around the corner! -Sydney

  8. Still not a bad month, especially if you think of how much less time you put into the sites this past month. Good luck finding a new advertiser.

  9. Hopefully December will be a better month for everyone :)

And definitely take all your vacation! I can’t imagine not doing that, but then travel is huge for me so vacation time is important.

hey, how are you Robert! It really does suck when your private advertising deals fall through doesn’t it? Hopefully some more offers will come your way.

Looks like you are well on your way to accomplishing your goals. I am also very passionate about Internet marketing and having multiple income streams. Keep working hard and there is no limit to what you can accomplish!

    Take care.

  12. I think January will start off with a bang! I have to admit that I took a mental break as well. It’s always good to take a break so that you can get back fresh! :)
