My Monthly Income Stream Report – February 2013

Published on March 1, 2013 by

small business cash flowWelcome to my second income report of 2013.  If you want to go back and take a look at any other income reports, you can find them here: Income Reports.  This month was a very interesting month.  I was able to make some awesome progress to one of my biggest goals, but I didn’t make much progress towards the second goal.

If you don’t remember what I’m talking about, my two goals for 2013 were:

  1. Reach 1,000,000 pageviews this year alone
  2. Make $100,000

Well, here’s what happened this month.

Important Happening

I’m very excited to report that I’ve been making awesome progress towards my goal of 1 million pageviews this year.  That means that I need to average about 83,000 pageviews per month across all my websites.

While I’m not quite to 83,000 yet, February was my best month ever at The College Investor  with almost 50,000 pageviews!

50000 pageviews

The other exciting part of this is that I’ve discovered a very important strategy that I’m going to continue to apply to boost traffic to the site.  The bottom line is that I found a honeypot of my target audience, and I’ve been nursing the honeypot and driving traffic to my site at the same time.

Between The College Investor and my other websites, I’m getting closer and closer to my goal for readers this year.  The important part will be sustaining it throughout the entire year.

On the flip side, income was down a little this month compared to January.  Nothing I’m overly concerned about, but none-the-less, something that makes me a little sad.  It’s always funny how you can have great traffic and less income, and then less traffic and more income.  Oh well, I know that if I continue to sustain the huge improvement in traffic, it will generate revenue in the future!

What I Learned

I had two big learnings this month when it came to website traffic.  First, traffic alone doesn’t equal revenues.  You actually have to do something with the traffic once you get them to your site so that you can make money.  That’s why you may notice that CPC Revenue for The College Investor isn’t $0.  Once I started gaining traction, it was to several posts that were targeted, but there was no monetization on the posts.  In the short term, the easiest way to start converting traffic was to add advertising back on the site, and it started paying off well.  The numbers you see above for CPC advertising are for only about 14 days, so I hope that it will increase in March.

Second, I had a big realization about having to seek out and find your audience.  I’ve focused on a couple of strategies to do it, and I’ll share more in an upcoming post, but the bottom line is that I decided to be more active and go out and find people who may want to read my stuff.  Once I found them, I provided value and encouraged them to come to my site.  What’s even more excited is that I had a post go semi-viral on Facebook not once, but twice last month.  It was all due to finding my audience, and they would click “Like” at the bottom of the post.  That would attract more readers, and perpetuate the traffic.  It was very exciting to see!

What To Expect This Month

This month, I’m actually going to be focusing the bulk of my attention on my newest goal and venture: Beat The Nine to Five.  I’m setting a new goal for myself around the premise of beating the nine to five job, and I hope you’ll check out my journey.  Right now the site’s under construction, but I encourage you to sign up to be notified of the site’s launch.  You won’t be disappointed, as I already have some amazing content lined up for the start.

Launching a new website is a lot of fun, but I don’t want you to think I’m leaving this site too much!  What do you want to see this month here on My Multiple Incomes?

  1. Best wishes for the launch of your new site – I think it is a great idea.

I gave up my 9-to-5 job at IBM in 1995 to launch a software company with 3 of my friends. Five years later, with lots of blood, sweat, and tears (and that $10 million in venture capital) we were able to sell the company for a tidy sum.

    All the best,

    …Tim

  2. I am very impressed with how you manage multiple sites! I hope to be able to do the same someday

  3. great job on getting more and more traffic. A couple of good months can bring you closer to your yearly target, don’t lose heart. You’re doing great on all your sites.

  4. Congrats. This is awesome. I can’t even imagine 1 million page views. That is incredible.

  5. Looks like you’re well on your way to achieving your goals for the year! What I would like to read more about here is your strategy for approaching potential private advertisers for your site, since that is where you generate a significant portion of your income, and something I’m considering for a few of my sites!

    Nice work on traffic progress!

What affiliate are you selling on Entrepreneur life if that’s public into? Seems great given the traffic.

    • My best affilate page actually have 5 different products on it, all which work for me. It doesn’t matter the option the reader chooses, and they are all great deals (some are free)!

  9. Congratulations for a very positive monthly income. I am very impressed how you manage multiple sites and keep them all active.

  10. This is very inspiring to see – both from a website traffic perspective as well as from an income perspective. I’m on track to make $1,000 in dividends this year, and I can’t wait to build that up to $1,000 per month. I had no idea that you have 4 sites! That is a lot to maintain. I’m dabbling in trying to build up my second site (a niche site) and already finding that it takes a lot of work.
