Wow, this month went by so fast! I can’t believe that, as I’m writing this, it is already Halloween. I feel like it should still be mid-summer. This month has been another good month, and I’m very excited about the diversification of income I’ve been receiving across my multiple website and businesses. I’ve always said that one of the biggest benefits of developing multiple income streams is that if one income stream is down for the month, there are always others right there that can pick up the slack.
Important Happenings
Like I mentioned last month, one of the biggest changes has been the growth in affiliate advertising. I think you’ll see the impact of affiliate marketing below in my income report. I’m still putting together a good post on it, but I’m trying to improve this income stream on all my sites.
Also, I hired a virtual assistant to start helping me out with a lot of the behind the scenes work. I think this person is going to bring a lot of value to my business, while at the same time freeing up some of my time to be with my family (which is extremely important). She starts in November, and I’m really excited to bring her on board. I’m also going to be sharing some of the strategies I used.
Finally, I disabled InfoLinks on The College Investor. I’m running a test on whether it is more valuable to not have the InfoLinks turned on. Many regular readers don’t like InfoLinks, and they are the same readers who may convert on affiliate advertising. As such, I’m giving that a shot, but you will see decreased CPC advertising income as a result.
My Multiple Income Streams
By now, you should know how this works, but I like to break down my multiple income streams into categories so you can see how I make my income. I don’t include my salary or my wife’s, although I do consider those part of my multiple income steam strategy.

What I Learned
The biggest thing that continues to amaze me is the power of multiple income streams. I love how, even if one income source dips a bit, another seems to take its place. After being penalized by Google, it is important to not just rely on one single source of revenue, because you never know when that is going to change.
I also learned the importance of treating everything like a business. I put together an informal plan to start increasing affiliate advertising, and it seems to be working. Let’s hope it continues, but I think the structure I’ve given myself helps. I’m trying to be much more structured in everything I do, and it seems to be helping.
What to Expect This Month
This month, I hope to finalize my post on affiliate advertising, as well as share some things about my new virtual assistant. That is just getting going, but hopefully I’ll have some things to share soon.
Cheers!
Robert

This is great info, Robert. Good work! Can you talk a little more about what ‘private advertising’ entails? Text links? Sponsored posts? Sidebar ads? Thx – Julie
They include all the above. I consider private advertising as anything where an advertiser contacts me, or I contact an advertiser. It’s basically everything BUT pay-per-click and affiliate advertising.
Got it…thanks!
Congrats on another great month! Diversification is the key. Very inspiring..
I need to do a lot better job of developing affiliate income. I’m not exactly sure how to start, but I think the first part is writing posts regarding products/services I use and endorse.
Hey Robert nice work with October. Looks like you are running a lot. What are you selling on ebay? Are you almost at the limit with so many sites?
A few months back I had bought a lot of used items at an estate sale and I’ve been selling it. All down selling now, but it provided nice supplemental income for 3 months. I don’t plan on adding any more sites to my portfolio in the future, but you never know!
How did you find your VA? I haven’t had any luck with that aspect.
I gave in an went with Virtual Staff Finders. Glad I did too, which I will share in an upcoming post.
Virtual assistant? How have I not heard about this yet? haha. I can’t wait to hear more. Do most of your dividends pay monthly or quarterly?
Most of my dividends pay quarterly, but they seem to be on alternate accounting cycles, because I receive a payment almost monthly.
Looks like you’re doing great!
Thanks, Michelle.
Definitely interested in what you are doing to increase affiliate marketing Robert! Looking forward to reading the article when it comes out.
Great! It is really something worth looking forward to.

Hi Robert, you are doing great with all your sites. Looks like paid advertising is your main income source which is followed by affiliate marketing. Anyways, best of luck for the upcoming months.
