Why I Blog – My First “Thank You”

Published on September 21, 2012 by

thank you emailBelieve it or not, I’ve never received a thank you email before – until this week.  And after reading countless posts like Pat Flynn’s Road to 50,000 Subscribers, where he asked himself the same question, I was actually getting kind of down at blogging.  I know that people are finding my content, I can check the analytics.  I know that some people like my content, I can see the shares.  However, I never knew if my content was actually impactful or if it was just a little entertainment while bored at work.

My First Thank You Email

That was all until this week, when I received my first thank you email ever from a reader.  And it was awesome to receive!  It was in regards to my post, How I Successfully Appealed My Home Appraisal.  I wrote it to showcase my battle with a faulty home appraisal, because I really couldn’t find any resources about it online.  There were other horror stories, but not really any success stores.  And while I know my story won’t work in every circumstances, I was able to do something and win.

And this is the email I received:

Thank you!

I specifically like your final step. I am just at the stage where I’ve found significant errors in my report and I’ve said I want to appeal. I use Navy Federal, and they are pretty good with customer service, so I am hoping I don’t have to start all over. SO frustrating. I spent yesterday sick to my stomach over how low my appraisal was. I finally could bear looking at it last night and found the errors — really inexcusable. Didn’t include a full bath. Didn’t include the finished basement in  the room count. Counted my kitchen and LR — it would appear — as one room, even though they have different flooring (not that it should matter, they are two different rooms).
That was just awesome to receive, especially for a post that didn’t get too much attention before-hand.  I appreciate that I was able to help someone who was so frustrated and didn’t know what to do.  That is what makes writing worthwhile!
